Our Last Thread On BlogCatalog Was Removed By Administration
Why was our discussion removed?
Here’s the rule that got us squashed
"Posts with Links and nothing else.
If all your post says is "Click this link to learn about something" whatever that something is, your post will be removed since it isn't designed to initiate a conversation.
You can link to your blog or another website, however it needs to be as a reference, not as the primary purpose of the post.
The best way to determine if your post is going to be removed is ask yourself the question, "is this post primarily designed to get clicks to my site?" If the answer is yes, then there is a very good chance that your post will be removed."
Well… for starters… Our post WAS designed to initiate a conversation and it DID pose a question for discussion or debate with a link to our forum to hold said discussion or debate.
The question was… What’s your opinion on teen birth control?
I quoted a recent news article regarding a teenage pregnancy pact, stating that it was this article that spawned the idea for this discussion.
The first comments to come in were all about the fact that my question was not directly related to the article and therefore my thread was confusing and didn’t make any sense… Come on people… step outside the box for a moment will ya… are you really that narrow minded that you can’t see how this article could bring up a multitude of thoughts… questions about teen sexuality and self esteem issues… what would make them do this?... How could it have been prevented?... What about teen birth control?… maybe it should be forced on them to prevent them from ruining their lives…
Shit flows down-hill, one thing leads to another and when discussing any topic… it will or in my humble opinion,… it should at least spark some original thoughts that could take said discussion down a different path at which point said discussion is now split into two and so on and so on… this could create a need to split a discussion into multiple separate discussions or threads which brings me to my next point…
Our thread was placed in shameless blog promotion for a reason… To shamelessly promote the new forum extension of The Bad-Ass Blog. Our blog has expanded and opened up a forum that can handle multiple and split topics. The BC rule clearly states…
“You can link to your blog or another website, however it needs to be as a reference, not as the primary purpose of the post.” AND “The best way to determine if your post is going to be removed is ask yourself th question, "is this post primarily designed to get clicks to my site?" If the answer is yes, then there is a very good chance that your post will be removed.”
So… really the only violation that I made when I created this particular thread was that it WAS primarily designed to get clicks to our site. If that is not allowed the my question is why bother having a Shameless Blog Promotion category at all ? Shouldn’t shameless blog promotion be just that… shameless blog promotion? If you must hold your discussion on the threads in BC and your links must be relevant to that discussion… well then it seems to me that the shameless blog promotion category is really no different than the general discussion category except for the name which only serves to separate discussions specifically about blogs from discussins about everything else. Maybe the name should be changed to something more like… Blog Discussions… General Blog Discussions or Discuss Your Blog Content Here.
Definitions from: www.thefreedictionary.com
Shame
n.
1. a. A painful emotion caused by a strong sense of
guilt, embarrassment, unworthiness, or disgrace.
b. Capacity for such a feeling: Have you no shame?
2. One that brings dishonor, disgrace, or
condemnation.
3. A condition of disgrace or dishonor; ignominy.
4. A great disappointment.
shame·less
adj.
1. Feeling no shame; impervious to disgrace.
2. Marked by a lack of shame: a shameless lie.
pro·mo·tion
n.
1. The act of promoting or the fact of being
promoted; advancement.
2. Encouragement of the progress, growth, or
acceptance of something; furtherance.
3. Advertising; publicity.
So… By definition… To shamelessly promote a blog would mean that you could shamelessly advertise it with absolutely no cares or concerns for anything other than promoting that blog… which is clearly not the case in BlogCatalogs Shameless Blog Promotion Category.
So do I have a point here or not?

I will have to say, yes you have a point. I wasn't around when this shit went down, too bad. I think I was out having a few drinks with my buddies. Damn, I always miss the good shit. BC is so scared someone is going to get offended by something that they kill anything that causes too much emotion and raw opinion. They are afraid their subscriber base will be turned off and migrate somewhere else because people are talking about stuff they dont want to hear. Fuck that. We need to somehow put up a filter there and let those with real opinions that are tired of moderation to fall through and land here at the BadAss forum. Now how can we do this.

Well some guy named John Sullivan I think it was, left a comment on the BadAss so I think people are not quite getting directed here to the forum just yet. I think in time we will see a little community growing here. Its just that its so young that it seems discouraging when just a few loyalists come by. You'll guys will get this going, Im only here to help ya. Buzz Buzz.
